New ID Number Verification

During the early 1990's the Department of Home Affairs implemented a new algorithm, which saw the change of all South African's identity numbers. Prior to this, identity numbers ended in a number sequence of 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, etc. New identity numbers now end in 081, 082, 083, etc. Unfortunately, many people have not yet applied for the new bar-coded identity document and still make use of the old identity document still bearing the old identity number. This may cause the identity number no longer reflecting correctly or verifying.

With this service, registered members can lookup the new identity number issued to an individual. Results are based on our own verifications conducted the past 13 years. Where we do not have any information available, we will assist members in ensuring the identity number is verified and new identity number updated. Please note that this service will not display results where an individual changed his/her date of birth and was issued a new identity number.
